It was another fabulous day in Linz.  I had my usual hearty hotel breakfast, took the tram to Brucknerhaus in my blacks with tuba for the 12:30 PM University of Arizona tuba/euphonium ensemble concert I played in. Before our concert I heard Jason Byrnes of University of Northern Colorado do a great solo tuba recital.  After our concert I took the tram back to the hotel to change into a beach shirt and shorts.  I did some additional shopping along Landstrasse and to look at the exterior of the New Cathedral a block over (completed in 1924) before going back to Brucknerhaus to take in the James Madison University brass band conducted by my old ASU classmate Kevin Stees.  Later I caught up with his whole family including his lovely wife Rhonda who played oboe in a graduate woodwind quintet on one of my recitals.   After the ITEA general meeting, I caught up with Heiko Triebener, tubist with the Melton Quartet and Bamberg Symphony, and Barbara and Jerry Young going back to the Beer Garden for a delicious dinner of authentic Austrian food helped by Heiko’s fluent German to the waiter!
